Tanker Truck Fire Closes I-5 for 12 Hours

A tanker truck fire shut down a section of I-5 for 12 hours on Thursday, while emergency crews put out the flames and repaired the damaged roadway. The driver and his passenger both observed smoke coming from the engine at around 4:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon. The engine then burst into flames. Fortunately, the two drivers escaped the cab of the truck without injury. The freeway was reopened at around 4:30 a.m. Friday morning.

Accidents such as these are often caused by trucking company negligence. Trucking companies are required to maintain their fleet according to federal and state standards. Failure to do so can give rise to liability in the event that the poor vehicle maintenance causes injury in an accident.
